Starting the New Year off on the Right Foot

Starting the New Year off on the Right Foot
January 6, 2015 Linda Murray

Linda Murray, Athena Coaching2015 is here and we anticipate a wonderful year ahead. Now that the New Year festivities have come to a close, it is time to focus on the year to come. But where do you start if you really want to maximise success and see some real change?

1. Break the Mould

You can’t make any real change if you aren’t afraid to go against the grain or try something new. Sticking to what you have always done will not bring about any change. Make 2015 the year where you dare to do something different to benefit both your career and the direction of your team.

2. Prioritise

Focus on what really needs to change and start with that. Prioritise your tasks so you can work on the elements where you can really see yourself making a difference. Start the new year as you mean to go on and try not to fall back into those old patterns.

3. Say No

As a leader it is easy to get pulled in multiple directions at once; often you may find yourself working late just to get everything done. Saying no to long administration meetings or work which can more efficiently be delegated is worth doing so you can focus on the real task at hand.

4. Focus on the Customer

Make 2015 the year of your client or customer. Is there some change you can incorporate which will make a big difference to the service you provide? Customer and client service and support is very important and you may soon find, a little change will reap great rewards for all.

5. Get Creative

You know the term ‘think outside the box’ but when was the last time you actually did it? What areas of the business could a bit of creativity work wonders? Why not arrange a brainstorming session to see what your team members may be able to come up with. You may be surprised what information such a session may provide.

As a leader it is easy to be bogged down in figures and spreadsheets without actually focussing on specifics which could implement real change and make a difference to your bottom line. Don’t be afraid to try something new – without a little risk there is no real chance of growth.

Let’s make 2015 your year to really make a difference and show everyone what you are made of!
